Car Manufacturing Process

Car manufacturing is usually divided into 4 parts for its operations management:

  • Press Shop
  • Body Shop
  • Paint
  • Mounting

Press Shop – Metal & Aluminum Coils transformed into building frame of the car

It’s this stage of the process that provides sheet metal parts required for bodywork and parts required for building the frame of the car. These parts are created from metal coils. These extremely heavy coils are of metal and aluminum.

From this metal coils bands are usually cut out to form boards. Once the boards have been formed then thru fully automated servo presses various parts of the car’s body is molded such as side frames, doors, hoods and roofs.

Body Shop – Assembling of steel, aluminum and fiber composite parts

It’s in the body shop that several hundred pieces of steel and aluminum are assembled. Apart from steel and aluminum, carbon and fiber composite parts are installed as well. Most of the tasks required for assembling these parts especially for welding and joining techniques, are carried out by robots with millimeter accuracy.

Paint – Corrosion protection for the assembled body

Once the bodies have been assembled, they are initially cleaned in plunge pools, degreased and then coated with zinc phosphate layer. This ensures corrosion protection for the vehicle which becomes very important. Then coats of paint are applied that ensures protection of the vehicle under harsh environmental conditions.

Mounting – Customization of Interior, equipment, accessories and its assembling

On completing painted bodies, well trained staff complete this step of the process. Its in this step of the process that individual customization becomes possible to meet customer’s specific requirements. Country requirements, various equipment, accessories, interiors make it possible to produce a highly distinctive car model.

    Final Assembly

Assembling of drive unit with corresponding body that has been completed in initial 4 steps. Once all the 4 steps are completed, it’s in the final assembly section that the drive unit of the car i.e. – engine, transmission, axles and exhaust systems meet its corresponding body (that has been completed in mounting step). This drive unit is attached to the body of the car. At the end of the Final Assembly, vehicle is stationary on its wheels. Numerous tests are usually performed before it gets rolled out of the manufacturing facility.
